LSRW Theory in Practiced in Digital Language Labs

Digital Language Labs are the association of language instruction and advanced technology turning language learning into a fun-filled experience for students. They are aimed to make students speak fluent English and make the English Speaking students become further better. When we look closely at the speaking skills of our students it can be noted that mother tongue is easily learned when in comparison with foreign languages like English. Language Experts behind the formation of language labs looked into the root cause of this contradiction. They have illustrated this difference and showed how language labs have become the need of the hour in Indian Educational Scenario. They have borrowed the following instance to exemplify this-How does a child of 1 year learn to speak in its mother tongue? At early stages of language acquisition she listens to the mother and elders speaking and does not respond to their continuous prompts. But later child begins to grasp some easy phrases and respond in broken words. By the time she is 2 or 3 years old, the child learns to speak fluently without much grammatical mistakes. It is to be noted that the child learned to listen and speak without any kind of formal education. LSRW theory (Listening, speaking, reading and writing) is the natural way of acquiring language strictly in that order.

From this short anecdote shared above it is quite clear that everyone learns mother tongue unconsciously by the LSRW method. But unlike mother tongue acquisition, English Language Learning in our educational system underestimates the listening and speaking skills over reading and writing skills.

Language Labs accept this method of LSRW and functions to highlight listening and speaking. By repetitive listening of the lessons in English RP and reiterating the phrases and expressions students eventually grasp the ways of a native English speaker. One must refrain from choosing language labs that do not provide productive and enlightening content. You should go for labs that make fine distinction between different difficulty levels so as to cater the requirements of users belonging to various standards.
